1-2 Weeks Pregant

Yesterday was a day of mixed emotions, stress, excitement and worry!

Stress: not because of me being a few weeks pregnant, but because I lost my car key in the local woods (while walking our dog). Bad enough on its own, but I was using the spare key and it had my number plate written on the key ring. After a good while looking and following out tracks, we found my keys and before you wonder yes that key ring will be taken off and replaced!

Worry: Is the test correct, this is the reason behind me taken 2 of the Ultra Early Pregnancy Tests, then using an ASDA Home Pregnancy Tests, they all came back with 2 lines (positive). I was starting to believe and asked my partner to buy a Clear Blue Digital pregnancy test.

As you can see this test says I am 1-2 weeks pregnant ( I was ovulating around 2 weeks ago, so I am guessing it more 2 weeks than 1?).

Also I am a bit worried, as I still have period pain, which isn’t stupidly painful (runs to get pain killers) but its definitely there. I am planning on visiting my doctor today, to ask for advice. I have looked online and it sounds normal, but I would like to have someone tell me this rather than me read what other people say.

Excitment:  Because we have been trying for nearly two years, this is the out come we wanted from the start!

As a couple we are trying to not get to excited as our luck, is pretty bad over all, so we are trying not to get stupidly excited! I can tell you now its bloody hard not to tell people the good/brilliant/amazing news!

We will keep you all updated, how we get on. Today at the doctors and all though this amazing journey!

Thank you for reading out blog!

Am I pregnant?

I am currently a few days late for my period, and thought I would take a test (just to see).

The photo is the test which I took first of all, there is one dark line and a not so dark but still visible one. I then took another test, which after a few mins looked the same as this one. I am really unsure how to read this test, is it positive, or not.

As much as I hope these tests are correct, I find it very hard to believe as I have period pains and also the grumpyness, that I always get when I’m about to come on.

I bought these tests a few months ago, as they were very cheap online, another reason why I am finding it hard to read this test as a clear yes.

Any comments would be great

How To Use Sensitive Ovulation Tests Strips!

Here is a little blog on how to use a ovulation test strip.

They may look rather daunting to use, but trust us they really are very easy to use, and also read the results from.

First thing you need to do, is to collect a urine sample.

Then you need to take the test out of the pack, I’m sure you probably already got that though. Be careful when doing this as they are rather thin and could easily get broken.

The next step is to put the test into the sample, (as you can see I’m rather dehydrated) up to the marked line. We find it easier to do this with a clear pot, as you can easily see where the line is.

test straight away

After putting the test strip in the sample for at least 10 seconds. You will need to leave it for 10 minutes, but no longer than 30 minutes as test becomes void after that length of time.

As you can see from this photo, which was taken straight after the test was done, it is already showing a clear negative result.

Even though it was showing a negative result, we did what it said and waited 10 mins………………….

last test

This photo was taken 10 mins after taken the test. As we believed I’m not currently ovulating.

I hope this has helped, and with this result I can go to bed with a ….. headache (to help keep his sperm count up for when I am ovulating).

Monitoring cycles

Unless you are very lucky, getting pregnant needs a certain amount of planning. In that you need to have sex on or in the 3 days leading up to your ovulation. Ovulation is meant to occur approximately 10-16 days before the start of your next period, however this varies from person to person. So how can you know when you are going to ovulate?

Well we had been relying on a free app, called My Days, something that we reviewed in a previous blog (My Days App). My partner has always been a little sceptical of it, as he says, how can a computer program know all these crucial information, when given minimal information about me. I however, have been more believing of it until recently, as it has always said that I will start a day earlier than I actually do, and I assumed that it would see this pattern and change it, which it never did. This month it was 4 days out, which as the last blog suggested, caused us to think that I might be pregnant. When actually upon looking at the diary I have been starting consistently around the 15th or 16th of each month, so was if fact perfectly on time. I have now started a diary to record when I start and finish my period. I have also purchased some pregnancy and ovulation test strips, to allow me to know for sure both when I ovulate, and should I be late in the future whether I am pregnant or not. These I will record on the calendar section of this blog. So basically my own version of My Days, but that doesn’t guess when I will start and when I ovulate. Only I won’t put on when we have been intimate, as though I love all of our readers, we aren’t really that close!

So what ways are there of monitoring cycles???

My Days App

This app on further examination, can be changed so that you have longer or shorter cycles, and can be customised much more if you want to, although this takes time and patience.

My days app

Here is a screenshot from the apps page: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chris.mydays

There are other apps available, however, My Days, has the highest rating so I can only imagine that the rest are even more difficult to use.

The other alternative is the old paper and pen method, of using a method to test when you are ovulating, as discussed in my ovulation test page, then record the times you are at high ovulation and when you are on your period. So how do you know when to test and what do you record?

One method is using the Billings Ovulation Method: http://www.thebillingsovulationmethod.org/. This requires you to monitor the feel of the secretions in your vulva. By monitoring these, over several months, you can work out your cycles, especially by feel.

However, this seems like a lot of effort and neither of us can get our heads round it. So we are going to use the test strips on 3 consecutive days mid way between my periods (which are currently between 25 and 26 day gaps or a 30 to 31 day cycle). I will start on day 10-12 of cycle. Obviously if I am not ovulating on these days, I will try for the next 3 days, to cover the 6 day average quoted by the majority of websites online. We will obviously do further blogs on the findings. However, as any mathematicians may have noted from our calendar, my cycles while similar are currently increasing length, so are my periods back to normal? Am I ovulating at all? Hopefully this new method of recording and the test strips that I have ordered will allow us to find out the answers and help us to get pregnant.

Please feel free to comment if you have any advice, are using a method of working out ovulation, that you find useful, or anything else about the subject covered in this blog.

3 Days Late, Do We Dare To Dream???

As the title says I am 3 days late, this being said I am going by my app called “My Days” It says I should have started a few days ago. My other half doesn’t believe the app is ever right, as its is only an “app”. We shall see, I hope it is but I very much doubt it this time.

Do I dare dream??

I am a little unsure if I am pregnant the reasons for this is, I have all the normal signs of my  time of the month tummy cramps, tiredness and feeling a bit grumpy.

I have been late before (quite a few months ago now)  and it wasn’t anything, so I very much doubt its different this time, but cant help to think “what if” seeing as we have been trying this surely will happen at some point (being late because of being pregnant).

The worst thing about being late is the fact that my body has gone a bit crazy and I have started to feel sick and I also have heart burn but that’s nothing new I have had that for months now. I am not to sure why but I believe its probably all to do with me going on Google and searching for the signs of early pregnancy, like when people talk about nits you always start to get itchy.

I am very nervous about going out and getting a test in case I am “just late” and then I have wasted £10 on it. I will wait until I know for sure I have missed my period before going to get one.  Why cant there be an obvious sign that your pregnant from the start? It would be a lot easier or is there, and I just don’t know what the sign is?

While I wish and hope I am pregnant, as its what we have both wanted for the last year and a bit, I find it hard to believe I am, as I have all the signs that I am going to come on.

I will keep you updated, I am hoping I am wrong and I will be back in a few days saying YAY I am, but for now we shall wait and see.

Fingers Crossed!!!!

Yay! We have our laptop back!

Finally we have received our laptop back! Got it back after 2 weeks, only for there to be a screw loose, so it had to be sent straight back. So we were not happy and a complaint has gone in.

On the positive, we have it back now and will resume blogging as normal. Thank you for your continued support while we were unable to post new blogs.

No Blogs for a while… laptop is broken

Sad news our laptop has got a broken screen, no idea how but it has been sent off for repair. Luckily it was covered on insurance. Unfortunately this means that we won’t be able to write any boss for the next few days/weeks depending on how long it takes to be repaired.

We will prepare lots so that when we get it back we can put them straight online.

Thank you for your continued support.

How to make him last longer…..

This is not as rude as it sounds, but has some logic to why it has been chosen. It has been found that if the female reaches orgasm, the chances of conceiving are increased, as the muscle contractions during orgasm, help to pull the sperm further into the vagina, thus aiding conception.

So therefore the longer the male can last, hopefully, will mean that the female will reach orgasm, and as such increase the couples chance of getting pregnant.

In researching we have found a range of ways to increase the time before he ejaculates, although many are not suitable or advisable for those trying to conceive:

  1. Male to masturbate/partner to get him to orgasm before having sex, as the second time the male will naturally last longer

Obviously this is not advisable as it will decrease his sperm count, as he can only produce a certain number of sperm cells in a given time, so if he wastes his quota of sperm via manual stimulation, fewer sperm cells will be available when trying to fertilise the females eggs.

There were some that might have be more beneficial:

  1. Breathing- apparently some men hold their breath, which causes them to tense and therefore ejaculate quicker
  2. Some positions are more sensitive for the male, this can be different for each person, so find which ones are suitable for you and avoid these.
  3. For him to focus on pleasuring her, not on how it feels for himself
  4. During both sex and foreplay, when he gets close, stop before he finishes and distract him before continuing. Some people say that if the female applies pressure to the underside of his penis, stopping the muscle, which is involved in ejaculation, from contracting, and again distracting him, will after several sessions of doing this, make him last longer overall.
  5. A commonly mentioned method is for the male to practice contracting his pubococcygeus muscle,  this he can do while he is peeing, he has to merely stop his flow for a couple of seconds then continue peeing. This should not be done during the first wee of the day, as the body gets rid of a large number of toxins, so stopping this mid flow can lead to possible urinary infections. But by strengthening this muscle will allow him to stop himself orgasming for as long as he wants.
  6. Talk, as a lot of the problem is psychological, the more he thinks that he doesn’t last long, the more he worries and the more prematurely he ejaculates. Meaning its a vicious cycle, that while frustrating, needs understanding and support from the female otherwise it will only get worse.

I hope that his helps some of our readers.

Thanks for reading and good luck trying to get pregnant

Green Tea and Fertlity

759747bI was looking on Twitter yesterday, before going to bed. I was tweeting people and having a good read of what people where saying.

I follow someone called AssistFertility, she sells Fertility Tea and like us does a blog about trying for a baby. I saw that she was adverting Fertility Tea that she sold, I had not heard of this before and being such a stranger to it. I soon looked on her website. I was rather excited by the idea of trying something new and seeing if it could work for us. I soon showed my partner the website and was very tempted to buy the tea, last night. Lucky he noticed that it included nettles. I am badly allergic to nettles, so can’t take the risk even if its only a tiny amount they put into the tea bags.

So today, when I have had the chance as my partner has been using the laptop. I Googled Fertility Tea, mainly to see if there are any other teas which would work the same as the Assist Fertility Tea. There are 100s of pages which have info about Tea which is meant to help you conceive, like by doubling the chances of conception of every cycle.

How have I never heard of this before???

The most well known tea which a lot of website say about is Green Tea, like many people I have heard and tried this before. I will be honest I am not 100% keen on it. From what I have read it sounds like a must tea to drink daily. In a study researchers have discovered that those participants that drank half cup or more of green tea per day doubled the chances of conception every cycle. How true this is I really don’t know. Its does sound well worth a try, as what have I got to lose? I just hope people are right and after you have something you don’t like for 20 times you start to really like it.

I am going to start drinking Green Tea daily from tomorrow 30th March 2013. I will do another blog about this in a months time, to let you know how I am getting on.

Have you ever tried ferility tea or green tea, when trying for a baby? Please let me know by commenting.

Thank you for reading.

One Born Every Minute: Showing all aspects of childbirth

This weeks episode of One Born Every Minute, was more emotional than previous episodes. It showed the heart break and anguish of the parents of Kaiden, who unfortunately had a congenital diaphragmatic hernia, a rare life-threatening condition, that affects 1 in every 2200 births.

It means that there is a hole in the diaphragm of the developing foetus, therefore the organs of the stomach can move up into the chest cavity. This as a result decreases the size that the lungs can develop grow to, ultimately meaning that once the child is born, and has to try and breath for itself, it encounters difficulty. As the lungs and blood supply, aren’t suitably developed to, quoting medical professionals, be compatible with life.

We must start by saying, that we can’t possible imagine what Hayley and Pete went through, it is a dreadful thing to happen to anybody and our thoughts go out to them, and all that have found themselves in a similar situation. You managed to stay so strong and united throughout, that should we have to go through anything like that we can be half as strong as you were.

We also want to praise channel 4 and One Born Every Minute, for having the bravery and honesty to show a topic, that happens daily around the world, but is easily overlooked in the happy and positive world of child birth. As we know from personal experience, my mother had a miscarriage, and a friend of ours had a child born with Hypoxic-Ischaemic Encephalopathy, who after 4 days of intensive treatment died in his parents arms.

While we don’t want babies to die, we were becoming slightly annoyed with the way the media and world in general assumes and presents this image that getting pregnant and having a baby is as simple as anything. When for a large number of people this is not the case, be it due to fertility problems or problems during or shortly after pregnancy.

So we thank mostly Hayley and Pete, but also channel 4 and One Born Every Minute for covering this story. It may be only the tip of the ice berg, but its a start to showing the world the problems that many couples go through in their quest to have children.
